Class Procedures
"Every good organization is based on a solid foundation." That foundation is the rules and procedures that bring order to chaos." Keeping the quote above in mind, please remember that my class is based on a foundation of rules and procedures. Procedures- Particular course or method of action. Procedures are your responsibility. That is, guidelines to help you be organized and successful in my class. Please ask questions if you are not sure how to do something.
- You will be required to use your school planner every day. The day's assignments will be on the calendar. Please copy that information into your planner on the correct date. You will receive a nine week planner grade. If you are absent for a day get with your study buddy upon return to fill out your planner. DO NOT COME TO ME FOR PLANNER ENTRIES.
Be Prepared
Prepared means having the proper attitude for learning and getting your planner, paper, and pencil as soon as you arrive. Do not waste time chatting or wandering about. Begin working on the mind bender as soon as you enter the room.
Mind Benders
Are completed in your composition book and have the current date on them. DO NOT WASTE an entire sheet of paper. If the bell ringer does not use a whole sheet, draw a line under it and do tomorrow's bell ringer on the same page.
Filling Out Your Daily Planner
Absent or Makeup Work
You should call or text your study buddy on the day you are absent to find out what work you missed. If your study buddy does not know, check our class website www.starfleettraining.com. If you still do not know, then check the assignment calendar the first day you are back. If all this fails, come and ask me.
Heading A Paper
Assignments will have the following information in the upper right hand corner: Top line- First AND Last name (Printed) 2nd line- Class title and date 3rd line- Assignment name Any assignment without a name or illegible writing will be given a 3NG mark (no name, no grade) and will be placed in the assignments basket. Once it is claimed by the owner and properly given a heading, I will grade it and deduct 20 points. REMEMBER TO ALWAYS PUT A HEADING ON YOUR WORK.
Homework, Classwork, Tests & Quizzes
Must have the proper heading and can be submitted in blue or black ink only. Assignments are to be turned in on the date due by your class period. You may submit homework via the internet by e- mailing it to allisont@marion.k12.fl.us by 4:00pm on the due date. If it does not reach me for any reason,or you do not put your REAL name, period, date, it is a missed assignment. Note: - If you share your work, you share the earned grade (you earned an 80% for your hard work and shared it with your less responsible friend. Your grade is 40% and their grade is 40%.) -You may use a word processor to complete assignments, but CHECK your spelling- remember spelling counts on everything. - You may choose to use a jump drive to submit your work. When you bring it in, I will immediately download it to my computer and return your jump drive. DO NOT LEAVE JUMP DRIVES WITH ME. -All paperwork turned in during class is to be placed in the homework basket at the beginning of the class. Do not get up to turn it in during class or at the end of class, unless told to do so.
Passwords
You will be given a passwords sheet to put in your notebook. Record ALL passwords on it. I will give you a password ONCE. If you lose it, you will not be able to use that resource.
Loaner Supplies
Loaner supplies do not exist in my world. Come to class prepared.
Leaving Class for the Restroom
Only 1 person at a time may be out of class. If you need to go, stand up go to the clip board and fill it out completely nest to your name on your period, take the hall pass then go. You will have 3 minutes to return. When you return, place the hall pass by the door and sign back in. You are permitted 3 bathroom breaks per nine weeks. You may go to the bathroom IF , I am not speaking, your work is caught up, and you have not used all your passes. Your bathroom time is IN BETWEEN CLASSES; plan ahead and do not stand around talking instead of going. (If there are special circumstances, see me privately.) (There are no bathroom passes when a substitute is present)
Moving Around the Class
Only one person at a time may be out of their seat. Do not be up and moving around the class while I am teaching.
Fire/Emergency Drills
During fire alarms you will proceed quickly and calmly out the classroom door, turn right, down the stairs, turn right, head toward the car pick up line, turn left, and follow the walkway till it ends, then turn right and walk at an angle toward the pine trees. You will exit as a class, single file and wait silently. I will call out the class roster once situated and then you may talk quietly within our class. For other emergency drills you will follow our established procedure and remain silent until I say you may talk. If you get separated from the class during a fire drill go with the nearest class and let that teacher know immediately you are from my class.
Travel Outside the Classroom
When we need to leave the classroom, you will line up single file at the door. You will leave quietly, single file, without touching each other and proceed to our destination. If we enter a building or pass by another classroom, you will be silent. In assembly places (cafeteria, auditorium, etc. you will act like gentlemen and ladies.)
Computer Lab or Media Center
In these places you are expected to work. In the computer lab you will WALK to a seat, be seated and begin working. You are not to be on any other website then I have given you or doing other tasks. In the media center you will quietly find a book and take a seat in the seating area, not in the stacks. Before we leave anyplace we will ALL check to make sure the floors are clean, the chairs are pushed in, and the computer monitors are turned off.
Helping Others
Does not mean giving them the answer. If you need to help someone use H- give them hints( "It's a theory not a Law, try and think of other things it's related to, sounds like elf.") E- give them examples( person, place or thing, sodium, gold, wealth.") L- tell them to look up the information ( Try this website, look in the 2nd paragraph, use a dictionary.") P- Show them the page number ("check page 233.")
Teamwork
There are times when you will be required to work as a team. Every member is expected to contribute to the team effort. I may not be standing over your shoulder, but I am paying attention. Each team member will be given a task and is to be working on that task; I will warn the team one time, then take points off of the team grade. You will help grade the team and scores are limited; not everyone can earn a 5. If one person gets the 5 another gets a 4, another a 3, and so on.
