Grading Guidelines
Lake Weir Middle School's grade guidelines are outlined here.
A = 90% - 100%
B = 80% - 89%
C =70% - 79%
D =60% - 69%
F = 59% or below
Assignments are broken down into several categories. Those are shown here with their weight equivalents.
Classwork & Homework= 30%
Quizzes= 30%
Tests and Labs= 25%
Participation, teamwork & Following procedures= 10%
AR Program= 5%
Assignment Expectations
(What's He Looking For When He Grades a Lab, project, or written paper) NOTE: Spelling counts on every assignment!
1. A proper heading on each work submitted for grading. Is the paper properly headed, neat and organized.

Note: Any paper without a proper heading will automatically receive a 3NG (No Name No Grade.) label. When the paper is claimed the score will be reduced by 20%.
2. Practice work- have all the questions been answered correctly? If an essay has been required, does it follow the format for a properly constructed work?
3. Tests or thinking type questions- Has every part of the question been addressed? Are the answers longer than 1 or 2 words and/or demonstrate the thinking process.
4. Summary works- Does the submitted work follow the guidelines for good English? Is the work written in complete sentences and does it adequately summarize the main points of the work?
5. Reaction paper/ Labs- Does the submitted work follow the guidelines for good science? Is the work written in complete sentences and does it adequately portray the students conclusion to what is being described? Are the conclusions believable, within the scope of the research, and show good scientific thought?
6. Writing samples and longer (more than a paragraph) works.
"A"= the mechanics of the work are outstanding. The student clearly understands the procedures for preparing a papers. All elements of the paper adhere precisely to the specified format (MLA). There are virtually no errors in mechanics in any portion of the paper. The paper could be used as a sample of how to prepare a paper and demonstrates mastery of the mechanics of research and thought. The paper contains appropriate and cited works and includes photos, graphics or charts that appeal to different sensory modes. The paper is always word processed.
"B"= The paper is similar to the paper receiving an "A" except that it contains a few minor errors in mechanics. The student is clearly aware of the procedure for preparing a report or paper. Paragraphing, sentence structure, spelling, and language mechanics are above average. One or more areas may not adhere as precisely to a specified format. Formatting errors, although more numerous than those papers receiving higher scores, are not significant enough to detract from the overall effectiveness of the paper. The paper includes works cited, but the list is incomplete. There are some graphics, photos or charts that add to the overall quality of the work. Paper is either word processed, typed, or neatly printed in blue or black ink.
"C"= The paper lacks a specified element or does not specifically adhere to several procedures for formatting reports and works. There may be minor errors in all areas of mechanics evaluated. Paragraphing/sentence structure errors are more numerous than for works receiving a higher score. There may be several errors in spelling or language mechanics. Works cited are few or incomplete. There are no graphics, images, or items that push the paper "above average."
"D"= The work is very poor or not complete. There are numerous formatting errors. All areas of mechanics evaluated show significant weaknesses. Paragraphing and sentence structure are weak (incomplete, underdeveloped, immature) and errors in spelling and language mechanics abound. The paper is basically a "rough draft."
"F"= need I clarify more?
